God Is Love

According to http://www.christianbiblereference.org/faq_WordCount.htm the word "love"
appears 319 times in the OLD TESTAMENT and 232 times in the NEW TESTAMENT of the NIV Bible translation.
This word must be important. The question is why ...

In the Bible, God says about himself that he is love. He is LOVE in PERSON. He does not only do something to love. He just is love.

He is love that is never failing. He is love that encourages. Love that builds up. Love that carries you. Love that comforts you. Love that is never ending.

God's love was at its best when he sent Jesus his son to die for you and me. He gave his everything and held nothing back.

God told us to love as well. To love him, to love ourselves and to love others. Our friends and even our enemies.

In our world today, people do not love much. They think about themselves first. What can the other person give to me? What can I receive?

But our question should be: How can I help others? How can I be of worth for somebody else? What can I do for them?
How can I make somebody else happy?

And we are supposed to do that out of love and not out of egotism or calculation.

As Christians, we follow our master Jesus. And he loved people. He ate with them. And he was especially for people who had sinned against him. Who were flawed like us.

It's easy to say: Love your enemies. Or even to say: Love yourself. Because some people do not even love themselves.

But Jesus the son of God commands us to love because he loved us first.

John 3:16 (NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
